Planning drywall priming
Inspect sanding quality, dust removal and primer compatibility with the planned paint.
Options and tradeoffs
Choose primer for the actual prepared surface and intended topcoat rather than treating every wall alike. New compound, existing paint and repaired staining can require different preparation decisions by the finishing contractor.
How to scope the work
The surface should be clean, dry and ready for coating before primer is applied. Inspect the primed wall under normal lighting, since primer can reveal defects that still need correction before paint.
Comparing estimates
Clarify whether the quote covers new drywall only or also repaired and previously painted areas. Ask whether surface corrections after priming and additional spot priming are included before final decoration.
After the project
Follow the coating instructions for drying and the next coat rather than leaving primed walls exposed indefinitely. Save the primer specification alongside the paint details for consistent future touch-ups.
